Inspiration (Again)

I was looking through some of the stuff I wrote years ago, when I first tried the blogging thing and I saw this post which I thought was in alignment with what I have been posting recently. So I thought I would republish it with a few minor tweaks. Hope you enjoy it.

What Inspires You?

Inspiration is often sought externally. We get inspired by other people, their thoughts, their deeds, their comments and in some cases by being who they are – I rewatched Invictus with Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon this evening.

it is a great story in that it shows how Nelson Mandela was able to inspire others to go beyond what they thought possible. It showed what leadership is about. Getting others to do what they didn’t think possible.

I think in lots of cases people look at inspiration as similar to motivation. The difference is that no one can motivate you… Motivation is an internal function.

Therefore, the two can be linked, in that I am motivated to act because I was inspired by something or somebody to act.

To maintain the rage though consistently is more about your motivation. Otherwise, if you need to continually be inspired by external factors, it gets either very expensive to afford the training/seminars/coaching, etc or in terms of the time that others need to spend inspiring you to act they may get tired and not see the benefit if you can’t keep going on your own.

Most successful people will get their inspiration, then use that to motivate them long term. They build their dreams/goals/aspirations and follow them. Often times they need replenishment in terms of a shot of inspiration, or like many great people their dreams/goals/aspirations are visited frequently to maintain the internal motivation to pursue their burning desires.

As we have discussed on this blog on a few occasions, this is where the average person falls down.

They spend little if any time working out what they really desire. Instead they pursue temporary targets such as holidays or material goods (cars, boats, houses) in the hope that that will fulfil them and unfortunately for many people, they find out too late that this is not what they were really after.

As Henry David Thoreau stated, “Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them”.

It is never too late to become who you were meant to be. Unfortunately, for many people they are so worried about what other people think of them that they are scared to pursue their true dreams, in the hope that they will get the approval of others by conforming.

As Earl Nightingale shared in the audio “The Strangest Secret”, “The opposite of courage in our society is not cowardice, it is CONFORMITY”.

Why does it seem easier in the short term to be a sheep, and follow the crowd, rather than follow your own dreams and be who you were meant to be.

Unfortunately, for many as in the first quote, this path leads to a destination based on mediocrity and under achievement.

Seek out your dreams, live your life as it was meant to be lived.

For many this is a scary thought as it means going against the crowd.

In my opinion, there is a groundswell in many areas, where people are starting to work against what we have been told is the way to a happy and successful life. People are starting to take more responsibility for where their lives are heading.

This is great, because a rising tide lifts all ships. As some begin to rise and then take others with them, they will eventually show many, many more people what is possible.

With the advent of the personal computer, internet and social media, the speed with which transformational messages can spread is reducing the time for real and material change to take place.

If you are interested in finding out more, there is a dearth of information available and I would be happy to direct you to some places to start.

have a great week.

Focus

You only get one chance at life, so why not make the best out of it?

Too often we hold ourselves back from being our best for any number of reasons:

  • i’m not worthy – ie I don’t deserve it
  • I’m not good enough
  • I don’t have the resources – time or money
  • I don’t know how?
  • It’s too hard

and the list goes on.

If we operate from the premise that life is what you make of it, and you are the creator of your outcomes, isn’t it respondent on us to make the best of what we have, and be the best person we can be?

Big question!

The answer is undoubtedly yes. Quite often however, we are held back by some of the thoughts in the list above, but also by societal expectations. Some of these are tied to our local/regional/national expectations, some of them based on our religious beliefs, some of them cultural from our families. This last one shows up especially when one culture is moved to another country with different beliefs and expectations. Generally the older people maintain the culture of the old country and the kids take on the culture of the new country and often this is a case of two worlds colliding.

So if we go back to the premise that you are the creator of your life, why don’t we just sit down and plan out what we want and put it into action.

Again, beliefs, culture, etc get in the way for most people.

However, it is really about our own beliefs holding us back from doing what will move us towards those things you really want.
We all know people who are massive overachievers, and generally we admire what they have done, and look at them and go wouldn’t it be great to be like that?

Well you can be. It just takes belief, focus and a lot of resilience. Some of the resilience is to get past the non-believers (mostly ourselves), the rest of it is to get past the setbacks that we meet along the way. I don’t mean that it has to be hard, what I am talking about is going into the vast unknown for most of us. It is scary to get out of comfort zone. However, as the old saying goes, everything you want is outside your comfort zone.

Belief and focus are the key factors and I am finding this out in my golf game. (Love Golf). I know I can hit the ball well and I inconsistently play well. Largely it is about me trusting that I can hit the ball where I want and not overthink it. I am getting closer and the awareness I now have about my game is a whole level ahead of where it was.

So once you have a clear idea of what it is you want. BELIEVE IT IS POSSIBLE AND FOCUS ON GETTING IT.

Maintain your awareness about your thinking. Your mind will attempt to take you off course. Stay with it. Don’t let others distract you. Stay with it.

BELIEF, FOCUS and PERSISTENCE will see you through.

Another Day…Another Dollar

Or so the saying goes.

Another day and a lot more experiences and thoughts to process and then determine are they helping me to get where I am wanting to go.

I feel as if I am more aware in some situations, especially the ones I prepare for, yet in others it is as if I am on remote control.

I watched a great video yesterday by Abraham Hicks on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNSiiTbT1As&feature=youtu.be in it she describes how you are the creator of your life, so if you are not getting what you want, then it is back to the drawing board so you can focus on what it is you want. If you are having outcomes that are contrary to your plans, then restart. Change your thinking.

Awareness and mindfulness is very important. If you are not aware of what you are thinking, your mind will take over and you will inevitably revert to your normal patterns.

Not easy at the start. But like all training, it usually isn’t…however, once you get on top of it there are a number of things that come into play.

A) it gets easier with practice and focus.

B) Based on the law of attraction, you get more of what you are already getting, so if you are getting good results from your new “aware” thinking, you will get more good results.

C) Generally you are feeling better, so you will treat others better and the law of reciprocity will come into play and they will act better towards you.

All in all, not a bad way to live your life.

Have a great day…

Why?

Interesting title, could have gone a lot of different ways with this one.

My question is really why do we do things we know are not good for us?

Is it because we don’t believe them?

Is it because we don’t believe in ourselves?

Is it a worthiness thing? Like if I do all the good things and get all the things I am told will come, do I really deserve them?

Over the last few weeks as I am learning so much more about thoughts, what they deliver, managing my energy, etc, I have also noticed it is not that easy to just slip into doing the right thing. Especially when I have been doing it other ways for over 55 years.

So what is the trick?

I was sent this passage the other day. I believe it is the start.

I am now making a decision that right now I deserve the best. It all starts with me. I will be more positive about everything. I feel good about who I am. I love myself. I accept greatness into my life. I welcome change and thrive from it. I am expanding in every way. I am so blessed.

We have talked before about knowing what to do and not doing it. Knowing that negativity is just bringing you more negativity doesn’t stop us…Unless you make a choice to.

Well now I am making that choice and I am happy to support anyone else who wants to join in.

What stops us from being our best when we know what to do?

An interesting 3 word phrase is one of the most debilitating in the English Language. “I know that!”

Unfortunately, when we say that to someone or to ourselves, we turn off from other potential possibilities and learning opportunities, because we have told ourselves that we don’t need to listen or think any further…because I KNOW THAT!

It is an interesting concept, because most of us have heard about the things that will help us lead a more productive, fulfilling life. However, we persist in not taking a lot of that information on board and even if we do – and we know that – we don’t implement it.

WHY?

I am constantly asking myself that question lately. If we know it, why don’t we do it.

There are a lot of reasons

  • inertia, we really are just happy sitting there doing the same thing and getting the same results
  • fear of the unknown – I haven’t tried it before and am scared of the results – either good or bad
  • we are unsure of how to do it, even though we profess to know (training requirement)
  • sometimes it is just a habit to persist in doing what isn’t working – for instance, one of mine at the moment and for a while is complaining about situations and people, even though I know it is not helping me and is actually keeping me off course.
  • we are lying, and don’t really know; and
  • finally whilst we say we know it, we don’t really believe it. It sounds too good to be true.

How do we overcome this seemingly sensible (although not really) sensible list.

Firstly, it is about getting real clarity about what it is you want. Get not just a good picture of what it is, but get your emotions and feelings involved and really ingrain them into your body/mind.

Once you have done that, ensure that you have a number of solid reasons why it is important to you. As Simon Sinek wrote in his memorable book “Start with Why”, a strong enough why will overcome any how!

Then you need to have faith that it is there for you. Just like Indiana Jones in “The Last Crusade” it is a leap of faith for many of the new things we do, to leap into the vast unknown. Now as long as you aren’t trying to long jump over the Grand Canyon, it is in many cases not going to be life threatening and we should just get on and do it, especially if it is something important and we have a strong enough why.

The worst thing to do is get it all ready and then not proceed.

Have faith and as Lao Tzu said “the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step”. As you may know, it is getting out of bed on that cold morning to train when you don’t want to, or typing the first paragraph to get the article or blog written when there are better things to do, that when you do it you feel so good about.

In many cases the reasons I gave earlier are just a smoke screen to the general fear and doubts we have that if we do what we know we should we might actually surprise ourselves and others how good we actually are.

Our Deepest Fear
By Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.

We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us;
It’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

I love this poem and it is worth reading regularly to ensure that we let our own light shine and in doing so we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

Be your best for you and all those around you. You Deserve It!

Rock on!

Are your results what you are after?

If not, why not?

Generally if you are not getting what you want, you are either focused on the wrong thing, another place, or your energy is not helping you get what you want.

Too often, whilst we think we want something, we are spending our thinking time on things we don’t want. For example, we think we want a big house, new car, endless holidays and no money problems (sounds good hey?), when in actual point of fact we are focusing on the bad things at work, something bad that happened in your day, or how you are going to pay the latest batch of bills.

The universe is primed to assist you in getting what you want and do it easily. However, most of us have been taught we need to work really hard to get what we want. In doing so we have also been taught that nothing comes easy, and in lots of cases we have been told we don’t deserve what we want, or “who do you think you are chasing those dreams?”

In reality, when you are in alignment with your goals and energetically connected to those goals and dreams, source/the universe will work to deliver them to you – easily. Being in alignment with your goals means not thinking about other things that are not on your shopping list. All that does is take you off track.

Obviously, the longer you have been working on the work hard, think about all the bad things system, the more difficult it is to get into alignment. However, as we discussed the other day in https://belieffirst.wordpress.com/2020/01/28/how-is-your-energy/, your energy is related to what you are focusing on. So if you are focusing on all the things you don’t want, you will get more of what you don’t want. It is challenging. Trust me, I am working through it at the moment.

The interesting thing is the more you focus on the bad, the easier it is to go down that rabbit hole – all on your own – the trick is to have some sort of circuit breaker or reminder about staying on track. Whether that be the old rubber band on the wrist trick, or a phone alarm at a regular schedule to get you to focus on what you want, find something that works for you. This is your life we are talking about.

So if you want to get the results that you are after, the first point of call in terms of staying the path is self awareness in terms of what you are thinking. For instance, if you are in an environment that is not conducive to being at your highest energy without a large effort, do you stay, do you go, or do you find a way to bring the energy in that environment to the level you need to be at your best.

This may require you to do some inner work, it may require you to question the others in the area as to what they are doing/discussing is appropriate to get the right outcomes for the group. Whatever it is, it is up to you to manage your energy.

The key thing here is that if you manage your energy and your thoughts, you can then have greater influence over your results. If you leave it to chance, that is what you are doing for your results.

As always, working on this with you.

Have a great day!

Rock on!

How is Your Energy?

Depending on your school of thought, everything is energy…or then again everything is God, Source, the Universe, or whatever else you want to call it.

At the end of the day it all boils down to the same thing – your perspective on what it is that gives you your life force. Personally, I have no real preference and I tend to run with Source as it is neutral enough to not aggravate people – and it is close enough to Star Wars (“Use the Force Luke!”) sorry, couldn’t help that one.

It is important that whatever term and belief system you have that you manage your energy throughout your day. If we are to believe that we create everything in our existence through our thoughts/prayers and our ability to manifest, then it goes without saying that you will get better results with positive energy than you will with negative energy levels. Agreed?

Then if that is the case, what can we do to manage our energy levels throughout the day?

Firstly, meditation is a great tool. It helps you to calm your mind and allow you to use your mind in a much better state than if you don’t. I saw a great quote recently by Bill Keane that said

“Your mind is like this water, my friend. When it is agitated, it becomes difficult to see. But if you allow it to settle, the answer becomes clear.”

The second one is what many people call gratification, but my preference is appreciation. The way it was explained to me is that being grateful is thanking something/someone outside yourself, whereas appreciation is about being thankful for what you have manifested or are manifesting. The latter is about us all being part of Source, so how can anything come from outside of you?

The third area is mindfulness. This is about being aware of your thoughts and feelings to ensure that you keep your energy levels high and focused on what is going to allow you to manifest those things and people you want in your life. Not the one’s that just randomly appear.

If you had a choice to have a life of universal abundance or a life of abject poverty, I am pretty sure that you would choose the former.

What I am learning (have known but not applied consistently) is that the former comes from you living with your energy levels at the right level and focused on what you want and not what you don’t want.

It was explained to me today, that if you had a bow and arrow and you wanted the life of universal abundance, yet you aimed at the life of abject poverty, it didn’t matter how good a shot you were, you wouldn’t get what you wanted. So mindfulness is catching yourself when you wander off the path. Appreciation is about being thankful for what you have received and the law of abundance, means what you are thankful for, you will get more of. Meditation is about clearing your mind to allow you to focus & manage your energy levels.

So a good trick to play with yourself is to give yourself a score at the end of the day as to how well you managed to go in each of the three areas throughout the day.

If you score yourself out of 10 in each area daily, that will give you a total score out of 30. A weekly total of 210 will be perfect – if you get there, shoot me a message, maybe you should be writing this.

I know with my golf, that focusing on the areas that are important and keeping score has helped me lower my handicap by 6.1 shots in 9 months. Hopefully for you and me, keeping score in these three areas will help you increase your energy levels.

Love and Light

Source Up Before a Meeting

Todays lesson is about being prepared before an encounter – any encounter, to ensure the best outcome.

Unfortunately, a lot of times we go into encounters with little thought about what it is we are after from that encounter and more importantly, what our energy levels are walking into that situation and how we manage our energy throughout the encounter.

The title of this post is a reminder to me, to be at a high energy level before entering a meeting and how I am going to manage my energy throughout that encounter.

Too often in the past I have gone into meetings with little pre-thought and also taking in baggage from previous situations or encounters which has led to me not getting the best outcome – hard to believe – not!

So it is about being mindful of the situations we find ourselves in and managing them to get the best possible outcomes in all situations. That may mean in a family situation managing your thoughts and feelings to not have situations get out of hand.

A lot of poor emotional decisions are at times when we are in family situations and age old triggers set off emotions that in other situations would not see the light of day.

If you are about getting the best life you can, then letting remote control living take over is definitely not the best option. We need to be the creators, not the catchers in our lives. Be in control by knowing what it is you want – in great specificity. Managing your energy. Knowing the situations you need to not be involved in and ditching those people that don’t allow you to be your best.

In the short term, especially in employment situations, the last idea is not easy to implement. Even so, you should be looking at ways to make a silk purse out of a sows ear. That is, get the best result from a poor situation.

Sending love and light to people that are negative and down is a great tool. Sometimes though this isn’t enough. This is when you need to go deeper to understand that the other person is also a child of source and that you need to not be negative towards them, but allow them to be themselves, we need to manage our energy, expectations and be understanding of their situation.

If you can do this and maintain your energy and entrain them to your energy levels you will end up with a far superior outcome for all involved.

Life is a Mirror

I’m sure you have heard it before, but “Life is a Mirror”. What we mean by that is that what you put out in terms of anything, energy, feelings, words, thoughts, is returned to you, sometimes many times over.

So the next time you have the inclination to think something bad about something or a situation or somebody, hold that thought – literally.

Because if you proceed, all you are doing is perpetuating that negativity in your own life…and I’m sure you aren’t looking for that?

How do we stop this?

Firstly, we need to be more self aware of what we are doing, thinking and saying. A lot of what we do comes second nature to us, because we have been doing it for a long time. Unfortunately, that doesn’t make it right. It just perpetuates the negativity in your life. As the old definition of insanity goes – doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result, there goes most people’s lives. They do the same thing over and over expecting different results – not very smart hey? Does that happen to you, I for sure as hell know it happens for me.

So how do we change it?

Firstly, we need to be aware of the saying, if nothing changes nothing changes.

Therefore, we need to change, That’s the fun part. I was thinking of writing that is the difficult part. But if we make hard work of it, it will be hard work. If we treat it like a game and have fun, it will be fun.

So we need to have fun with this. Every time you catch yourself thinking, doing or feeling contrary to what you want. Stop. Recalibrate and start again.

Or better still get a partner to work with. A friend, your partner, a work colleague (who is on the same wavelength – otherwise it won’t work) and discuss it, work with each other to help each other improve and work towards creating the life you desire.

Not the one you are currently providing.

Focus, attention and fun.

Have a great day

I’m Back

Well it has been a long time since I did this consistently. A few failed attempts here and there to get back on the horse but nothing consistent.

Now I have some real motivation. I have a new mentor and part of the work is to speak about or blog what we have been working on. so what do I choose…This. hope you like it and get something from it.

It started 6 months ago with a group “Practical Quantum Physics” course. I got a lot out of that, not just from the mentor, but from the other participants in the course. some of them were really connected to what we were working on, others like myself were either new to the content or reconnecting to the concepts.

Essentially the core principle is as Earl Nightingale said in the Strangest Secret, “we are what we think about most of the time”.

Well I got the bug again and am now working on an intensive to really take this stuff on board and create the life I want and DESERVE.

Interesting concepts given that most of us have been told our whole lives that we need to work hard, stick your nose to the grindstone and we will end up with a comfortable retirement.

Don’t know about you, but a comfortable retirement, given all the changes that are made to retirement laws quite regularly doesn’t excite me.

It is up to you (& me) to get what we want. But in most cases we have been sold a lemon in that it is not necessarily about working really hard, it is about understanding how to deliver the results you want and do it easily.

More to come in the upcoming days and weeks. Hope you come along for the ride.

Paul

PS Quiet week at my house, my daughter is getting married. Now for the speech!
